Volunteers are restoring a traditional Japanese tea house brought to Des Moines by Tomoko Yamamoto and her family during World War II. It is being rebuilt using Japanese carpentry and will become a home for tea ceremony, ikebana, and cultural classes, and a lasting symbol of friendship and peace.
